Intro to Chanting
February 17 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm$20
Are you interesting in chanting, but not sure where to start? Do you love chanting OM and want to know more about it? This workshop will introduce Sanskrit chanting through example, explanation of tradition and philosophy, and practice!
In particular, this class will focus on six Bija Mantras – OM and the five elemental Bija mantras typically associated with the modern chakra system. Bija mantras are primordial sounds that resonate deeply within the human psyche. They are easy to learn and use (even if you don’t have a “singing” voice) and can be used for meditation, relaxation, and healing practices.
Philosophy topics will include the five elements of Ayurveda/Yoga traditions, the modern and traditional yoga chakra systems, and a brief insight into the Meaning of OM. We will chant the six Bija Mantras, as well as introduce Sanskrit and chant the vowels of the Sanskrit alphabet.
Cost: $20 (early registration by 2/10), $25 after. Minimum of six preregistrations required to confirm class.
This class is taught by Heather Anastos, Director of Yoga Community and co-Director of Rasayana School of Yoga. Heather is a registered E-RYT-500 instructor with Yoga Alliance*. She has also completed a 400-hr Ayurvedic Practitioner program and is a certified Jyotisha Ratna through the American Council of Vedic Astrology.
