What does it feel like to be brimming with creative energy?

Creative energy is that force within you that gives you a vision, a goal, and an inner fire to make these visions happen. It is also the desire to shape your future by taking charge of your present. Someone living aligned with creative energy responds to life mindfully, and allows that vision to shift and change while still making progress towards it. Feeling misaligned from your creative energy can lead to an overall sense of unease and dissatisfaction. Things aren’t working out, plans fall apart, or you have plans and just can’t do them.

I ask you to think more abstract when it comes to the concept of being a creator, or collaborating on a project. Sometimes (often times), the project in question is simply you, you are the work in progress. As empowering as this mindset can be, it is also a daunting one when you are feeling a creative blockage and cannot, for whatever reason, continue going on without confronting it.

The King of Swords in the reversed position for this particular reading leads me to believe that there are several of us who are too caught up in our own heads. It is helpful to make plans and to-do lists, and to have your sights on the future. However, it is a very different thing to actually do it. When this card appears, it means the mental path has run its course, and it is time to actually get your hands dirty. The answers won’t come to you through thinking right now, they’ll come through active inspiration.

When you’re creatively blocked, this concept is easy to say but feels nearly impossible to implement. For those that feel this way, I challenge you to fail at something first. If you write, write an awful poem. If you garden, throw some dirt around mindlessly. Whatever molehill that has become a mountain to you, tackle it without perfectionism looming over your head and just get started. The kind of confrontation you need to put forth on your creative block is only partially in the mind, the rest is in translating that mental energy into practice.

The Three of Pentacles is adding to this message, a wish for us to collaborate and share our experiences and resources. How can you make this road a less solitary one? Are you surrounding yourself with those that inspire with their efforts (or those that you could inspire)? Occasionally you may feel that working on yourself (and the struggles that come with it) is a burden to others, one that you should be handling by yourself. Did you ever consider that this is a group project and you just never got the memo? Your contributions from doing the work add to a far greater tapestry, we need you to come forward when you need help because you are also part of the solution.

The Ace of Wands completes our reading with a task and a promise. If you do the work, a second wind will come. When it does, you need to take full advantage of it and run with the new burst of energy and support. Invite new ideas in, be receptive, and be responsive to the way things are unfolding. It can also be beneficial to use this second wind and renewed inner fire wisely to avoid burnout, the gift lies in mastering how to harness that energy without running yourself into the ground.

Breathe in, breathe out, and create.

New Moon Tarot Reading by Jae Melland

The new moon brings with it an opportunity to shed anything that has been holding you back, and to make space in your life for new direction and intent. So, what can we, as the Lotus family, learn from this new moon? What do the cards have in store for us?

The Two of Bows is a transformative card. The person standing in it is covered in fire yet stands assertively and holds their position. This is the moment when one decides to cast away all that was before, and bravely step into the flames to be transformed. How appropriate, that this card would appear now. They leave behind past doubt, insecurity, and toxic habits.

Accompanying this card is the Ten of Arrows, Instruction, in the position indicating what we as a community need to allow to grow within us. This card calls for us to reach out and teach and be taught. It calls for us to cross the invisible boundaries that keep us from learning from each other and to listen to those that come to us while carrying their different understanding. When we pass along our experiences, and listen to the experiences of others, we all benefit. Be open to learning from those around you, and don’t hesitate to extend a helping hand if you find you are the one with the knowledge. Exchange information and turn to each other and assist each other in growing. Be both student and teacher!

The last card tells us what kind of energy to project outward as we move into the next moon phase. The Nine of Arrows, Dedication. The person in this card is not frustrated, they have learned to detach their worth from the results of their efforts and are simply persisting. They do not let their first attempts define them. To them, the act of learning and adapting to achieve a new skill is a sacred act. And it is! Learning is sacred, practicing is sacred, and making mistakes is incredibly sacred. I challenge you not to allow frustration to creep into this sacred act, and to instead allow the results speak to you. What are some changes that need to be made? Is there assistance out there for you if you only ask? Or is it simply a matter of sitting down and keeping up the practice even when the inner voice of frustration and negative self-talk is raging? The message through this card is simple. Dedicate yourself to something and persist. Listen to what your mistakes are telling you, do not let them define you.

Overall, this is a great time to make the decision to step forward into that which is new, bravely, and without looking back. It is time to reach out and teach, while also having the strength to remain a student yourself. It’s a time of dedication, patience, and practicing well after the initial rush of excitement is gone. What a wonderful time for new undertakings.

Be well,
Jae Melland
